Survey day

Dropped object surveys on the deck plan.

A dropped object survey is the inspection itself: walk the plant, pin potential dropped objects, and prove which bays were clear. Findings land in RigScene PDO for monitoring and close-out. RigScene 360 is optional context, not a requirement.

DROPS-aligned inspection

Find it, pin it, prove the walk

DROPS is industry guidance for objects at height. RigScene does not replace your survey crew or certify compliance. It is the live register on the drawing crews already use.

Survey task Typical paper or spreadsheet pack On survey day in RigScene
Baseline survey Photo books that drift from the current layout Each PDO pinned on the live deck plan with evidence
Periodic sweep A whole-deck look-see with no record of what was walked Each work area marked pending, clear, or PDOs found
Handover A pack rebuilt for the next audit The same pins continue in the PDO programme
On the walk

Record the bay, not just the hazard list

A PDO list without a sweep record cannot show which corners were actually inspected. Work areas match how crews walk the plant. Frequencies and overdue banners live on the PDO management page.

  • Pending This slice of the deck is still to walk.
  • Surveyed, no PDOs The area was inspected and left clear.
  • Surveyed, PDOs found New pins go on the plan and into the register.

After the walk

The survey ends. The register does not.

Severity, exclusion zones, dashboard trending and verified removal are the programme, not survey day. Hand off into RigScene PDO instead of starting a second spreadsheet.

Dropped object survey questions

  • What is a dropped object survey?

It is the inspection: look for potential dropped objects at height, record what you find, and prove which areas were walked. DROPS is the industry scheme that guidance sits under. A PDO survey is another name for the same activity.

  • Is this the same as PDO management?

No. The survey is the inspection event. PDO management is the ongoing programme on the same pins: monitoring, zones, audits and verified removal.

Run the walk on the same plan as the register.
